My name is Alec. I am the host of Alec in WILDerland. I am also an honor student and have the title of Children's Survival Instructor with BCWSG here in Texas.
But basically, I'm just an average kid who happens to be an actor with my own adventure show. I've been doing WILDerland for almost a year and it all started because I don't play video games...I play outside! Okay, maybe that last part is not so average, but it should be! I have to say though, and if you follow my Twitter you already know this, that I DO have a small addiction to claw machines!
But just because I don't play video games 24/7 doesn't mean I think they are evil and will melt your brain. I just think they get played WAY too much by kids my age...and I just happen to like a lot of other things more.
One of those things is obviously exploring. Now, most people think that I live in a tree house or some random woods in the middle of nowhere. That would be cool, but I don't. Actually, I live just outside the biggest city in Texas, and I have almost all of my life. I like the big cities. But I like a lot of other places more.
I like places with water! Rivers, creeks, lakes, streams, beaches, oceans, I don't care. I just like water. I like floating on it, swimming in it, and of course, fishing. Fishing is probably my most favorite thing in the world to do. I love the sun but in Texas water is sometimes hard to find because we have so many droughts. So when you find it you have to appreciate it. Some of the best water I have found is at State Parks and National Parks.
Speaking of State Parks, I have been to so many I can't even count them. I've been to a few of them two and three times. For the show I've done five different ones so far. It's great because they are all so different and have many different types of animals, fish, and views. Some have Alligator Gar and dinosaur tracks and some have crystal caves and huge tarantulas! The Texas State Park Rangers are always real friendly and some will even show you cool areas to explore or teach you tricks on gathering sargassum or digging for crabs.
Primitive camping is another thing I like. Primitive camping is basically when you have to hike or kayak into your campsite. It means no electricity, no bathrooms, and usually no cell phone service. Sometimes you have to hike in a mile or more just to find a place and that is really hard when you have a huge backpack with tons and tons of supplies and camera gear. But it's also a lot more fun because you kind of have the whole world to yourself. It takes a lot of planning and really makes you think hard about what you will need for basic survival. Don't forget the toilet paper!

I also like Pugs! They are just so cute and funny all the time. Other things I like are Spam, tomato juice, the Hunger Games, peanut butter and banana sandwiches, would-you-rather questions, and I also like school. I work hard to get an A and I'm in advanced Math and that sometimes gives me a headache. It's just really hard to concentrate. Did I mention I like claw machines?
As for the show, my favorite episode is probably Primitive or the special episode in the snow that's coming soon. Both were really difficult to film but tons of fun. And the special episode was only possible because of Indiegogo, so it never even would have happened without you guys!
I think everybody should get outside and go exploring as much as they can. It's not just fun, it's good for you! And I work really, really hard to make sure Alec in WILDerland shows you how cool and easy it is to survive while you're out there. I also get tons and tons of help, obviously, so I have to say that you should never try exploring on your own. Always be with family and friends and let others know where you're going.
And one more thing. A lot of the stuff I try doesn't always work the way I think it will. Usually it just ends up being funny and my favorite parts of the episodes. But remember, this is a show for fun and I always have people to back me up. So please don't try this stuff. The advice of a twelve-year-old might not always be accurate :-)
Okay, so. That pretty much wraps me up. If you like the show or have scenarios or techniques you would like to see, you can always comment on the videos or Twitter. You can even send me mail in the regular mail. People have sent amazing things from all over the world and I really like reading the letters.
It really seems that being WILD is a good thing for me. I hope it can be a good thing for you too :p
Stay WILD,
Alec
